We’ll be presenting a session entitled Compensation Trends and Financial Stewardship: What Foundation CFOs Need to Know

Date: October 14, 2026
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Speakers: Nanci Hibschman and Amanda Wethington

Compensation expectations and practices are evolving across foundations, from how organizations manage staff pay and salary structures to how boards approach executive compensation and governance. At the same time, increasing pay transparency, regulatory scrutiny, and pressure to demonstrate fairness and sound stewardship are creating new considerations for finance leaders. While compensation decisions may be led by boards, CEOs, or HR, CFOs play an important role in evaluating their financial, operational, tax, and governance implications.

This session will examine emerging compensation trends affecting both staff and executives and highlight the areas where CFOs are most likely to play a role. Topics will include salary and pay structure trends; the growing impact of pay transparency on compensation practices and employee expectations; approaches to President/CEO compensation; board compensation practices; and the use of market data to support competitive, equitable, and defensible pay decisions. We will also address key financial, regulatory, and reporting considerations, including Section 4960 and the broader implications of compensation decisions for budgeting and financial planning.

The discussion is designed for both CFOs who have direct responsibility for HR and compensation and finance leaders who do not oversee these functions but are increasingly asked to budget for, analyze, explain, and assess the risks associated with compensation decisions across the organization.

With a storied 25-year career, Nanci Hibschman advises on compensation and performance strategies to help create programs that attract and retain exceptional talent while advancing organizational missions. Her understanding of market intelligence and nonprofit talent practices places her at the forefront of the industry.

Amanda Wethington brings nearly two decades of strategy-driven solutions to align rewards, recognition, and talent management. She’s recognized for designing execution-focused compensation programs that support nonprofits nationwide.
